THE VISCOUNT CRASH

On 22 September 1966, the Ansett-ANA Viscount VH-RMI crashed near Winton with the loss of all on board. Amongst the passengers was an Adastra employee, Harold Stewart Bagot aged 43. The reservation on the Viscount had been in the name of Adastra technician Les Sheffield but Harold Bagot went in his place. To compound the tragedy for Adastra, Les Sheffield also lost his life just two days later when the Hudson VH-AGE crashed at Tennant Creek.

On 22 September 2013, the 47th anniversary of the Viscount crash, a ceremony was held at the crash site on Nadjayamba Station near Winton. The ceremony was attended by Greg Weir who kindly provided these images.
